RENOWNED WU-TANG AFFILIATE/PRODUCER BRONZE NAZARETH SPEAKS ON THE SEPTEMBER 30th 2 DISC SET "THOUGHT FOR FOOD VOLS. 1 & 2"
Bronze Nazareth, renowned Wu-Tang producer/emcee affiliate, speaks on his forthcoming 2 disc release "Thought For Food Vols. 1 & 2."
The elusive producer/emcee who's worked with the likes of GZA, RZA & many more, drops some jewels regarding the album collaborations, including his work with The Wisemen (Phillie, Salute, Kevlaar 7 & Illah Dayz), M-80 (behind the scenes), June Megalodon, Beace & many more.
September 30th's 2-disc release also features fellow Wu-Tang fam members Hell Razah, Killah Priest, Timbo King & Killa Sin, not to mention tracks with GZA, Inspectah Deck, Masta Killa & more.
The meaning behind the album title? In the stifling climate of today's music industry, independent artists depend that much more on the fans' support for their livelihood. His thoughts for your bread... Sounds like a fair trade, no?
JEDI MIND TRICKS' AFFILIATES OUTERSPACE UNVEIL VIDEO FOR "WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS"
Jedi Mind Tricks affiliates and core Army of the Pharaohs members Outerspace offer the video to the first single off their new album,"God's Fury," in stores September 30th.
The visual accompaniment to "What the Future Holds" is as stunning as the sonic landscape created by Crypt and Planet: a bleak environment filled with a tinny and emotionally evocative soulful sensibility, heralding hard times to come. The often unseen landscape of a depressed and downtrodden Philadelphia neighborhood is captured as Crypt and Planet navigate their days.
The timing of this video is uncanny. As the financial institutions of the nation crumble, Outerspace gives us a glimpse of real people on the street, and the trials and tribulations that so many are forced to endure.
"What the Future Holds" is a "keep-your-head-up" anthem for those dealing with the realities of modern day life.
BABYGRANDE RECORDS SIGNS LEGENDARY D.I.T.C. PRODUCER/EMCEE DIAMOND D--ANNOUNCES OCTOBER 14th NEW LP "THE HUGE HEFNER CHRONICLES"
Legendary Producer/MC/DJ Diamond D, constituent of the seminal collective D.I.T.C. (also included Fat Joe, Big L. & more), has signed a multi-album deal with renowned indie Babygrande Records. His inaugural release with the label will be October 14th's "The Huge Hefner Chronicles," Diamond's third official release and first offering in 3+ years.
A classic and respected talent, Diamond D. got his start as a member of D.I.T.C., but soon parlayed this success into a thriving solo career, which included the release of the widely regarded classic "Stunts Blunts & Hip-Hop" in 1992. His second solo offering, 1997's "Hatred, Passions & Infidelity," featured appearances from such A-list luminaries as Busta Rhymes, Phife Dawg, Pete Rock & more.
Over the years, aside from independently releasing his subsequent two LP's, Diamond has remained an active participant behind the boards, having contributed his trademark style to some of the most iconic records in hip-hop history including The Fugees' "The Score," A Tribe Called Quest's "The Low End Theory," as well as releases by Mos Def, Pharoahe Monch & many more.
With "The Huge Hefner Chronicles," Diamond returns to form, with a record that recalls the nostalgic stylings of the "golden age," while maintaining a contemporary sensibility accessible to the modern day hip-hop head.
This duality of form is on full display on the first single from the forthcoming LP, entitled "D-I-A-M-O-N-D." A vicious head-nodder, the track instantly explodes into a "golden-age" inflected beat, produced by none other than the infamous beat maestro Nottz (Notorious B.I.G., Busta Rhymes, Method Man, Scarface, J Dilla, Snoop Dogg & more). Diamond answers with the lyrical fluidity that only a vet of his stature can offer. "D-I-A-M-O-N-D" is the feel-good back-to-school jam that hits the sweet spot for both purists and modern day heads alike.
PRAISE FOR DIAMOND D FROM THE ARTIST COMMUNITY:
"We're trying to be like Pete Rock and Diamond D, cats who've got a
passion equally for the rhymes and beats."
-- J. Dilla, Urb Magazine, February 2004
"Diamond D was doing soul samples since a long time ago. I just helped
bring that style back."
-- Kanye West, Vibe Magazine, Jan. 2004
PHOENIX EMCEE GUTTA PRESENTS "THOUGHTS FROM THE GUTTA" PART 2 (WEBISODE)
Phoenix emcee Gutta preps for the September 2nd release of his solo debut,
"Heads Will Roll," (largely produced by buzzing west-coast based producer duo
Blue Sky Black Death) with part 2 of his "Thoughts From The Gutta" webisode series.
Part 2 finds Gutta dishing on Phoenix's local scene and the overall state of hip-hop.
Gutta also addresses his stint in the pen and his thoughts on hip-hop culture's glorification of prison life. Summing it up on a somber note, Gutta touches on some recent personal tragedy and how it's effected his overall mindset as he gears up for the September 2nd bow of "Heads Will Roll."
PRODUCER DUO BLUE SKY BLACK DEATH EXPAND REPERTOIRE WITH DREAM-POP GEM
"SLOW BURNING LIGHTS"
Blue Sky Black Death, the burgeoning young producer duo of Kingston
and Young God, have embarked upon a new leg of their sonic journey
with the indie-pop gem "Slow Burning Lights," set for release on October 14th.
Fans and critics alike got an initial taste of the duo's versatility
with early 2008's fully instrumental release "Late Night Cinema."
"Late Night Cinema" has been hailed as an accomplished blend of live
instrumentation, clever sampling, and inconspicuous ingenuity. The
result is a sonic soundscape that clearly demonstrates the duo's
proclivities for genre-bending, as they claim influences from sources
as eclectic as Ennio Morricone, Stars of the Wind, Brian Eno, Goblin,
RZA, Mobb Deep, DJ Premier and more. With twinges of Folk, Funk,
Electro, Boom Bap hip-hop and their own inimitable style of
composition, "Late Night Cinema" set the stage for "Slow Burning
Lights'" broodingly nuanced sensibility.
After building a substantial resume producing for a wealth of indie
hip-hop emcees, "Slow Burning Lights" now finds BSBD pairing with newcomer
vocalist Yes Alexander to create a "dream pop" gem. Her sultry and
ethereal vocals have been drawing parallels to the contemporary
inflections of a Joanna Newsom, Shara Worden (My Brightest Diamond)
and Hope Sandoval (Mazzy Star). "Slow Burning Lights" is a beacon of
sophistication in an overcrowded "indie pop" landscape, highlighting
BSBD's versatility and serving as the bedrock release for this newly
formed group. As Kingston of BSBD himself states:
"Crafting this album with a vocalist rather than an emcee was more of
an open pallete like our instrumental music, rather than our hip hop
stuff. It gives room for the music to branch off in any direction and
breathe a lot more."
With a sensibility that hearkens back to the "shoegazer" stylings of
The Jesus and Mary Chain and Mazzy Star and a formula recalling that
of Garbage & others (accomplished producers teaming up with
captivating frontwomen), the pairing of Yes Alexander with the
virtuoso team of Blue Sky Black Death is sure to galvanize BSBD's core
fan base while further catalyzing the group's expanding profile within
the independent music community.
Praise for Blue Sky Black Death:
"They take the listener on an enthralling musical journey"
-Filter Magazine
"the best heartbreaking/horrifying slab of downtempo I've heard in
quite some time"
-URB MAGAZINE
"The beats are constructed with expertise, balancing sampled elements
and originals to impressive effect."
